Local Emergency Management Agencies
The Local Emergecy Management Agencies, or LEMAs, were established in accordance with the requirements set by Chapter 75 of Act 35 of Pennsylvania Code, all political subdivisions of the Commonwealth is directed and authorized to a local emergency management organization in accordance of the plan and program of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Each local organization shall have responsibility for emergency management, response and recovery within the territorial limits of the political subdivision within which it is organized and, in addition, shall conduct such services outside of its jurisdictional limits as may be required under this part.
Through the provisions of PEMA Directive 2007-01, local governments have the potential for establishing an intergovernmental cooperation with ajoining municipalities to perform emergency management functions as a joint consolidation.
